The president of the Chamber of Representatives, Jesús Zambrano Grijalva, expressed that corruption and crime have penetrated the State and added that only four cars and a house have been confiscated from Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.

While meeting with the Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic, Andrea Orlando, Zambrano commented that the confiscation of assets from criminals can take years, and the Army has to take care of those assets for a long time, "instead of dealing with other tasks that require its attention".

One of those tasks would be looking for "El Chapo,"a criminal considered by Forbes Magazine as one of the richest men in the world.

Orlando expressed that the struggle against organized crime in Mexico lacks continuity due to the fact that "the administration changes people every two, three or five years, which makes it difficult to follow up and causes a lack of coordination".

He added that their experience against the Italian mafia was a success when they started to use those who repented for getting involved in criminal acts and had confidence in the authorities, because they knew they would not be left alone in case of reprisals.

Orlando mentioned that to prevent the escape of criminals from jail, Italy implemented a mechanism for the insulation of the detainees, to keep prisons from becoming criminal headquarters like in the 1970s.

The meeting Zambrano and Orlando held this week was attended by officials from the European country as well as ambassador Alessandro Busacca and Mexican representatives Arturo Santana Alfaro and Waldo Fernández González, from Zambrano's Democratic Revolution Party.
