Luis Rodolfo Mariscal López, the young man beaten by Luis Antonio Gorocito and Alejandro Molina Nuñez, from the Necaxa soccer team, died today at 1:45 p.m., and the players now face being tried for murder.
Minutes after his death, senior staff of the hospital reported it to the authorities and will proceed to the autopsy of the 22-year-old student.
The cause of death has been established as pulmonary thromboembolism and the authorities have to determine if it is a consequence of the beating received by the players on August 16 outside a bar.
Gorocito and Molina Núñez are held in prison for the crimes of assault and battery, but in the next hours the charges against them could be reclassified as homicide.
Mariscal, who in December would have completed his agroengineering education in the Technological Institute of El Llano, returned to the hospital at 7:00 p.m. Monday, due to respiratory problems.
As a result of being beaten by the players he ended with three skull fractures and was subjected to two surgeries. He was awaiting a third intervention to place a plate in his skull at the time of his death.
