Federal forces arrested Iván Cazarín Molina, also known as Víctor Hugo Delgado, identified as the second-in-command of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
The General Commissioner of the Federal Police, Enrique Galindo Ceballos, said that this arrest was one of the main objectives of the Jalisco Operation aimed to weaken the structure of the criminal organization.
Ceballos said Iván Cazarín is linked to the shooting down of a helicopter that killed members of the Army and Federal Police in the municipality of Villa Purificación, Jalisco, on May 1.
Iván Cazarín is also related to drug offenses, extortion of merchants, fuel theft and homicide in Jalisco and Veracruz.
The arrest took place on Wednesday during an operation led by the Federal Police in the town of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco.
According to the authorities, Iván Cazarín Molina worked directly for Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
