Over 1,000 pounds of marijuana seized in Sonora

The federal police found 50 packages wrapped in packing tape.

Agents of the Federal Police seized 495 kilograms (1,091 pounds) of marijuana in the northern state of Sonora, the National Security (CNS) reported.

The incident took place on the Sonoyta-Puerto Peñasco highway, where federal police found 50 packages wrapped in packing tape in a vacant lot.

The packages containing the drug were apparently abandoned.

The packages were made available to the Public Prosecutor to follow up investigations.
