The Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis de Almagro, expressed full support to the work of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Mexico.

At the same time, he emphasized the attitude of the Mexican government and added that while "a government may or may not agree with some of the findings of the IACHR, the important thing is that the Commission can work with guarantees, something that Mexico has provided at all times".

He stressed that the Government of Mexico has agreed to continue funding the work of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) appointed by the IACHR to investigate the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.

Almagro also emphasized the openness and transparency shown by the Government of President Enrique Peña Nieto, after the IACHR concluded this Friday a visit to Mexico in follow-up to an invitation from the federal government.

"The IACHR is a key part of the Inter-American System that attracts the most disadvantaged in our Hemisphere, and for this reason, you have my support," expressed Almagro.
