Garbage picker saves girl from African bees

A garbage picker was taken to a hospital in Ciudad Victoria in serious condition after being attacked by dozens of African bees while protecting a young girl, saving her life.

Witnesses reported that the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in a garbage dump in the eastern area of Ciudad Victoria.

Ignacio Zúñiga Méndez intervened to protect Denisse Fabiola García López when the bees emerged from the remains of an old sofa, according to witnesses.

Some 30 people were also stung, among them women and children, as well as the colleagues of Zuñiga Méndez, who came to help him.

The fire squad and the Red Cross arrived at the landfill and the firemen were able to eliminate the swarm of bees while the victims were taken care of.

So far, there are no further reports on Zuñiga's condition.
