Six Mexican states under alert for 'Marty'

Oaxaca, Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacán, Guerrero and Colima are threatened by the storm.

The Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB) issued various alerts for Oaxaca, Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacan, Colima and Guerrero, in light of the strong rains caused by tropical storm "Marty".

On its Twitter account, SEGOB reported on the states under alert.

There is an orange alert Guerrero, the central and south-east areas of Michoacán; yellow alert for the rest of that state and for all of Colima.

There is also a yellow alert for the west of Oaxaca, and green for the rest of the state.

The blue alert has been called for the Socorro and San Benedicto Islands, and the green alert for the Marías and Marietas Islands.

For the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, the alert is green, save for the southeast and east-central areas of Jalisco, where the authorities imposed a yellow alert.

According to SEGOB, the alert levels are explained as follows:

Orange alert:

* Evacuate risk areas and look for a temporary shelter if your home is not safe.

* Monitor the water levels if you live near a river or lagoon.

* Close the doors and windows, and cut off the gas and electricity.

Yellow alert:

* Keep extreme measures of hygiene in foodstuffs.

* Collaborate in cleaning your local environment.

* Dispose of stagnant water to avoid mosquitoes.

* Keep gas, light, and water cut in order to ensure that there are no leaks or danger.

Green alert:

* Keep water and food clean.

* Avoid walking in affected areas, fallen electrical cables and hazardous materials.

* If you live in slopes or near mountains, be on the look for mudslides.

Blue alert:

* Stay tuned to weather information.
