Egypt will contact relatives of Mexican tourists

They will receive a compensation.

The Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, to talk about the attack recently suffered by Mexican tourists in his country.

During the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported progress in the case and that the Egyptian Ambassador to Mexico, Yasser Saban, "will shortly engage in direct communication with the victims and their families on the process for a corresponding compensation".

During the meeting, Ruiz Massieu reiterated the demands of the Mexican government in the sense that they perform a prompt, thorough and exhaustive investigation on the attack, with the corresponding demarcation of responsibilities.

She also requested information about the steps that the Egyptian government will take to proceed with the full reparation for the damage under international standards, including the compensation to the victims and survivors of the attack on the Mexican tourists.

Se pointed out that the Egyptian Minister reiterated the condolences for the tragic events and reiterated his Government's commitment to carry out the requested investigation.

During a trip to Egypt, 14 Mexican tourists were attacked by the Egyptian security forces, with the subsequent death of eight of them.
