Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto called his Egyptian colleague Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in order to convey the profound shock and sadness of the Mexican society, as well as the pain and indignation caused by the attack of Egyptian forces against Mexican tourists.

Peña Nieto reiterated the request for a thorough investigation of the incident in order to clarify the case and determine exactly what happened last Sunday.

During the telephone conversation, Al-Sisi recognized the long-standing relationship between both nations, which unfortunately is going through an episode of pain and grief due to the current situation.

Al-Sisi also expressed, on behalf of the people and the Government of Egypt, "their deepest condolences and deep regret" for the tragic incident in which eight Mexicans were killed and six more were wounded, during an attack by the police and armed forces of his country.

The telephone conference was held around 11:00 hours at the request of the Egyptian President, who came into direct contact with Peña Nieto following confirmation on the number of Mexicans killed.

Peña Nieto expressed concern for the injured and requested that they receive the best possible medical care, and informed that he had sent a diplomatic mission to Cairo, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, in order to assist their compatriots and their families.

At the same time, Peña Nieto asked his Egyptian counterpart to provide them with all the necessary means to aid them in their mission.
