Zeta leader arrested for fuel theft

Officers from the Ministry of National Defense, the Federal Police and the Office of the Attorney General (PGR) arrested Sergio Meza, known as "The Czar" of the Zetas Cartel, for robbery and theft of fuel, according to the federal authorities.

In a joint statement, it was reported that during the operation the officers seized fuel, armament, vehicles and machinery from the detainees who were operating clandestine jacks in the states of Tabasco and Veracruz.

The Offices of the Assistant Attorney General Specialized in Organized Crime Investigations (Seido) reported that the arrest came from a citizen complaint, and led to four search warrants in several buildings located in the state of Tabasco.

The arrests were carried out on the weekend and it was determined that one of the detainees apparently acted as financial operator of the criminal organization.

Meanwhile, the Specialized Unit for Investigations on Vehicle Assault and Robberies reported that one of the searches was executed in a field in the municipality of Cardenas, where they arrested two people.

In the operation the authorities seized four vehicles, four long guns of different calibers, two grenade launchers, 18 magazines, two fragmentation grenades and various cartridges, as well as cash, 15 cellphones, computer and electronic equipment and bank checks.

In a second search, in a car wash, the officers seized four trailers, one of them a tank filled up to three quarters of its capacity with fuel, a civilian vehicle, a motorcycle, and a tow truck, as well as a crane mounted on a truck, two trailer trucks, two welding plants, welding equipment, a bulldozer and a backhoe.
