The National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Data Protection (INAI) ordered the Federal Police to open the files compiled between September 24 and 30, 2014 about the disappearance of 43 teachers in training of Ayotzinapa in Iguala, Guerrero.

The files include service and radio logs, information dossiers and technical opinions handed to the Public Prosecutor's Office that the Federal Police had classified as confidential information, arguing that it is part of the preliminary investigation and that revealing it could jeopardize it.

However, the Institute decided to open it on the grounds that it is a case of serious human rights violations.

The resolution states that "in this case, the interest of protecting documents that are related to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Public Ministry is outweighed by the urgent need of society to know the participation of authorities in the tragic events of September 26 and 27, 2014 and to determine whether the authority acted legally and if it is undertaking all necessary steps to find out the historical truth of the facts."
