Mexico wins gold in Pan-Am beach volleyball

Mexicans Rodolfo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen surprised everyone when they defeated the Brazilian beach volleyball team of Vitor Felipe Araujo and Álvaro Filho Magliano, so far the favorites in the Pan-American Games.

The Mexicans, who got the bronze in the Central-American and Caribbean Games last year, defeated the Brazilians by 18-21, 21-13 and 15-8.

This is the first gold medal for the Mexicans in that sport.
