Ramón Eduardo Pequeño García, head of the Federal Police Intelligence Division and director of video surveillance systems of Mexico's prison system, was relieved of his duties after the escape of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán from the Altiplano prison in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
However, Pequeño García will not leave the institution, because he was named commissioner of the Scientific Division of the Federal Police, the Ministry of the Interior said.
He will be replaced by Damián Canales Mena, former Secretary of Public Safety of the State of Mexico.
Three other officials have been removed from office so far after the escape of Mexico's most-wanted drug lord: Juan Ignacio Hernández Mora, head of the Administrative Office for Prevention and Social Rehabilitation; Celina Oseguera, coordinator of Federal Centers for Social Rehabilitation; and Valentín Cárdenas Lerma, director of the Altiplano prison.
