President Enrique Peña Nieto said that his party's majority in the next legislature is the result of the positive performance of the federal government.
He said that during the first 30 months of his administration 1.3 million jobs were created, compared to the 130,000 jobs that were lost during the administration of Vicente Fox and the 500,000 jobs lost under Felipe Calderón.
At a meeting with the Lebanese community, President Peña Nieto said that the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and its allies achieved something that had not happened since 1991: majority in the Chamber of Deputies.
He added that society is realizing and understanding the progress in Mexico's economy, such as the low unemployment level and the record car sales figures. He quoted as an example that consumption grew 5% in the first four months of the year, that retail sales rose 8% in May and the record-low 2.88% inflation rate.
"Although the dynamism of our economy is not at the desired levels, we are moving and we are improving our performance," President Peña Nieto said at Mexico City's Lebanese Center accompanied by his wife, Angélica Rivera.
