Authorities issue orange alert for hurricane Carlos

Mexican authorities issued an orange hurricane warning (high risk) as Carlos is expected to strengthen and increase its forward speed over coming days.

The National Meteorological System (SMN) reported the hurricane was about 120 miles (180 kilometers) south of Acapulco, Guerrero and 242 miles (390 kilometers) south-southeast of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.

The center of the storm is expected to approach the coast of southwestern Mexico late Sunday, according to forecasters.
