Tropical storm Carlos forms off Mexico's Pacific Coast

The storm is expected to become a hurricane by this weekend.

Tropical storm 'Carlos' formed off the southern Pacific coast of Mexico on Thursday, the National Weather Service (SMN) announced this morning.

Carlos was located about 229 miles (370 km) south of Acapulco, Guerrero, with maximum winds of 52 miles per hour (80 km/h) and is moving north-northwest.
