A gas leak was detected in Azcapotzalco district in Mexico City, in the corner of Hidalgo Avenue and Calle Central.
Around 600 people were evacuated from 100 houses at Santa Catarina neighborhood, as well as students and teachers of three schools on Sotero Prieto and Cándido Navarro streets.
Fausto Lugo, Civil Protection Secretary of Mexico City government, announced on Twitter that the leak had been controlled.
According to the first reports the leak was caused by heavy machinery working in the area.
